I’ve always dreamed of being a gangster takes its title from a line by Ray Liotta as the gangster in Martin Scorsese‘s Goodfellas. The director Samuel Benchetrit at his second feature film depicts a story divided into four stories: A man decides to rob a coffee shop and will face an unconventional and sexy bartender (Anna Mouglalis); two akward guys kidnap a brat girl for ransom; A music band meets after years; five aged bandits are in the cafeteria to design their heist. Benchetrit choose black and white to tell these stories with echoes of Scorsese and Tarantino, and also reminds Jim Jarmusch and Aki Kaurismäki.
